Case Study: Old Rectory Garden, Barcombe

A lovely Georgian property with colourful and seasonal planting

The Old Rectory, Barcombe, East Sussex

Location: The Old Rectory, Barcombe, East Sussex
Size: 8 Acre
Soil: Very thick clay

The Brief

This Georgian property is owned by a well known comedian/actor and my brief was’I want the garden to look pregnant!’. This I interpreted to have a garden bursting with life and colour.
It was also important to have seasonal interest and structure. We designed the whole of this garden adding meadows and a walled vegetable garden.

The Challenges

The garden has really thick clay so we added French drains and incorporated tons of organic compost to aid drainage.

Garden Management

As this is such a large property and garden we were on site for over a year until it was ready to be handed over to a team of gardeners, care tips and advice is on going.

Steve Coogan

Owen’s masterful touch is evident in the way he selected and arranged the plants, he has created a dreamy oasis that is simply enchanting. The way the garden evolves throughout the year is a testament to his plant knowledge
